Leo Kennedy is the great-grandson of Sergeant Michael Kennedy and we're beyond honoured that Leo is a part of this project in the capacity as script consultant..
Raised in the shadow of his great-grandfather’s murder, Leo witnessed the deep psychological wounds inflicted on successive generations of his family – and the families of other victims – as the Ned Kelly myth grew around them and the sacrifice of their loved ones was forgotten. Ironically, Leo was nicknamed ‘Red Ned’ at school, but sadly he was taunted by some quarters for being on the "wrong side" of Australian history.
Leo's book, "Black Snake" is an amazing read, cover to cover. Daring to take on many of the long held "truths" of not only the Kelly story, but his own family's, Leo not only brings both a strong oral tradition to life, but more importantly, has backed it up with painstaking historical research.
Away from his regular working life, Leo is also a member of the Blue Ribbon Foundation, which supports police families and honours the memory of police killed in the line of duty.
